Tracing is a fine motor skill where children follow the lines of a shape, letter, number or picture using different materials. It involves the act of drawing or retracing lines, this helps the preschool children practice their hand-eye coordination and control of fine motor skills.

Reggio Emilia places an emphasis on tracing due to its role in aiding children's development of fine motor skills. It encourages preschool children to carefully observe and replicate objects, shapes, and patterns.

At The Liberty School, during these activities, preschool children utilize a wide range of materials, including pasta, cotton balls, jewelry, and other items, to trace letters, patterns, shapes, and lines. Moreover, they engage in the practice of creating their unique patterns and even count the number of items required for tracing each shape.

At The Liberty School, preschool children also trace the shape of a letter, they become more familiar with it, which ultimately makes it easier for them to identify. Each piece of paper featured prominently printed letters. The children enthusiastically practiced tracing these letters, and some students even attempted to write them independently, without the aid of tracing lines.

To enhance the learning experience and add an element of fun, the children were provided with bingo cards containing an assortment of letters. When a letter was called out, the children diligently circled it on their cards and then counted the total number of letters they had successfully found.
